We first bought Chateau La Condamine’s Corbiers Rouge back in the 2014 vintage. It was a beautiful wine and sold out much too quickly. We bought even more of it in the 2015 vintage and, still, it sold out much faster than we had expected. Now we are onto the outstanding 2016 vintage and we simply couldn’t be happier with the way that our old friend is showing. A bountiful nose of mid-summer violets, cocoa, cracked pepper, and even a touch of olive tapenade greets you like a warm summer breeze, caressing and enticing at the same time. On the palate you’ll find that, despite the modest price, this 2016 is nothing short of bold. Powerfully structured and showing surprising mid-palate weight, this classic Rhone blend has plenty of blackberry, blueberry, and roasted plum notes as well as an appealingly bright pop of peppery spice. This is a serious wine, a food friendly wine, a wine that will improve in the bottle over the next 2 or 3 years. We’re so confident that you are going to love the 2016 Condamine that we are pouring it at the tasting bar tonight and Saturday. Please swing by and try it on for size!
Food Pairing:
The wines from France’s Southern Rhone valley are some of the most delicious and versatile in the world. As we near the real heat of the summer my thoughts begin to turn to lighter meals. That often means just casually snacking on a plate of cured meats, cheeses, and olives with a nice hunk of crusty bread. I think that the Condamine would be perfectly at home in that context. That said, I fully expect it to perform flawlessly alongside a seared duck breast with crushed cherries or even a hearty bowl of beef bourguignon.
