Bradford Mountain Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013

With the big Memorial Day weekend right on the horizon we thought it would be appropriate to feature one of our favorite hearty reds for grilling and chilling, the 2013 Bradford Mountain Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. The folks at Bradford Mountain are unashamed about producing big bold wines and this 2013 Zinfandel of theirs is no exception. The nose bursts from the glass in classic Dry Creek Zin fashion with alluring aromas of freshly pitted black cherries, sweet vanilla, coconut, violets, and baking spices. The first sip is money! It offers fantastic intensity on the entry with robust notes of raspberry preserves and warm cherry pie filling. Then it begins to turn dark and spicy as it rolls on through the finish, leaving powerful flavors of crushed pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, and kirsch liqueur in its wake. It’s a big bold bottle of Zin. There’s no denying that. So grab a couple of bottles and fire up the grill this weekend.
On to the Tasting Notes:
I don’t know why we’re able to get such great deals on the wines from Bradford Mountain and, to a certain extent, I don’t want to know. What I am sure of is that their wines are a silly good value at these prices. This week’s special, their 2013 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, is downright delicious. It offers the sort of abundant fruit and spice that makes Zinfandel so darn much fun to drink. It has plenty of juicy, jammy fruit up front as well as a generous dose of oak to add richness and density to the finished wine. I love the big pop of peppery spice that I get on the finish and I am especially enamored of the boozy bite that lingers long after I swallow it down. It’s a classically built bottle of American Zinfandel that isn’t trying to be all delicate and subtle. The 2013 vintage was just released and it is really in a nice spot right now. That said, I see no reason that it wouldn’t hold up well for the next 3 or 4 years if you decided that you totally loved it and wanted to keep some around for a while so that you could return to it for future grilling and chilling adventures.
Food Pairing:
What’s better than a big, juicy burger grilled over an open flame and topped with a mix of crumbled bleu cheese and crispy bacon? Wait, don’t try to answer that. Because it’s a rhetorical question. There’s nothing better than that! Pair up a glass or two of the 2013 Bradford Mountain Dry Creek Valley Zin with just such a burger and then kick bask and bask in their combined magnificence!
You MUST mention this special or print it out to receive the price on the above wine.
