Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Apalta Vineyard Syrah

For the last three years we have lucky each Spring to obtain significant amounts of the Casa Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Syrah. Last year it was one of our best selling email specials and this year will be no different. The only issue this year though is that there's not a lot of it to go around this time so you may just want to pick up the phone right now to reserve your bottles. We are coming into the prime season for grilling and chilling and this bottle can be the perfect complement to those ever so enjoyable times.  This single-vineyard from Lapostolle's San José de Apalta Vineyard is the same as past vintages in terms of not being for the faint of heart. This is a serious bottle of wine.  Come on down to the tasting bar tonight because as soon as we start pouring this bottle cases are going fly out the door.  It is simply put that good.
On to the Tasting Notes:
You've heard us say it over and over again but here we go once more.   Chile and South America in general present some amazing values in the worldwide wine market.  In this case the Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Apalta Vineyard Syrah continues to help this region live up to this statement.  This Syrah is engaging right from the onset with with its beautiful floral aromas.  The nose is what I consider to be very new world-esque with  notes of ripe blackberries, blueberries, plum, and that sultry vanilla that we all seem to love.  The first sip I took after I opened the bottle was just as intense on the palate as the nose even just after having opened the bottle.  Just as prior vintages, I knew right away that this wine was going to have some serious character and more than likely would be a true teeth stainer.  The wine coated my mouth with amazing richness and texture.  Luxurious flavors of warm earthy-spice along with dark currants mingled with hints of mocha and vanilla that seemed to linger for an eternity. After I swallowed I was left with deep flavors of cocoa and minerality that seemed to never end.  No doubt there's a touch of tannin present here but the acidity is balances it out keeping the wine lively on the palate.  The wine isn't overly gamey or meaty as some Syrahs can be.  Once that smokiness begins to fade you are greeted with exuberant notes of fresh baked blueberry pie, sweet cassis, vanilla, toasty oak, and a hint of tobacco.  The finish is dominated by black pepper spice, crushed granite, baking spice, and even more ripe sweet tobacco.

The Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Apalta Vineyard Syrah continues to deliver year after year.  I suggest that you pick up a few bottles to drink over the next few years.  Or, if you are like me and you are building a vertical of this great wine well now's your chance to reserve your bottles before they are all gone.  I would no doubt suggest decanting your bottle for an hour or so before service to let it release its inner beauty.  Once it does you’ll be beckoning to enjoy another bottle with such amazing complexity at such an affordable price.
Food Pairing:
This Syrah will no doubt work well with a variety of foods off the grill.  I think an ideal pairing would be some grilled buffalo burgers with a nice stack of bacon and blue cheese crumbles drizzled on top.  Oh, and be sure to enjoy a glass of the Alexandre while manning the grill.
You MUST mention this special or print it out to receive the price on the above wine.
This price expires 3/29/2015 at 6pm and is limited to in-store quantities.
No rain checks given. Call (303) 936-0272 to reserve bottles with a credit card.
