Wine Reviews

"Dominus"  is Cabernet, Cab Franc and Petite Verdot

Well its sexy, beautiful, wonderful, silky, full bodied, mouthfilling, balanced, structered, flavorful, seducting, seducing...lol, and it sis simply the best California wine in the store. Sure it ain't cheap but you know something with all of those adjectives above it is not going to be inexpensive now is it.

Is there a difference between a $10, $20  bottle of wine and this bottle of wine...hell yes there is. This is an expierience in the wine world...Buy it and decant it for about two hours. Millaaaaa says 95Pts Price...Its worth it!!!

Pair this wine with a "very"  "very"  lean piece of Red Meat  and a Baked Potato... and a lot of Buttaaaaaa...Cheers and raise a glass to good health.

Veramonte Cabernet

Winemaker note's...

Deep, dark ruby red. Concentrated blackberry and black cherry aromas with well-integrated oak. Juicy red and black fruit highlighted with earthy notes and elegant oak that lend a creamy mouth feel. Plush with soft, rich tannins, this wine is concentrated, round and luxurious with a long finish.

Millaaaaa says...I agree with the above. Its not classic Cabernet because the lack of tannin and acidity. It does show good structure overall and it is Juicy and Round thats for sure. Food pairing is tough here ...I would say something like Fudge Brownies to be honest or a nice piece of Chocolate...Wine and Chocolate is a match made in heaven anyway.

Cheers!!!!!

Penascal Red
Spanish Tempranillo

Now if you know me you already understand that I think highly of this bottle and have for a long time now. It is under $10 and consistent as hell to be honest. Great summer wine because you can chill it down a bit and enjoy glass after glass. Use it for the wine base when you make sangria at home if you like also. Showing nice tones of semi bright fruit and a bit spice...Oh I havent mentioned it has a scerw cap....gotta love that.

So grab your self a case very soon so you have it on hand for all of those friends that come over and drink all your wine. Serve them Penascal and they will stumble away very happy...Make sure they are not driving!!!

Justin Isosoceles 2005

Winemaker Notes....
The 2005 Isosoceles is dark purple with a slight crimson overtone around the rim. Aromas of boysenberry, leather, mocha, mint and cassis combine with light layers of caramel and vanilla resulting from the extended oak ageing. A soft, fruit forward, elegant entry segues into a mid palate with length and complexity. Seamless, integrated tannins marry with ripe fruit, and flavors of coffee, butterscotch and hint of pencil lead on the finish of this wine. The 2005 Isosoceles is very young, and will continue to evolve from now through "2025".

Now Miller...

Iturbide 2004

Ok I hate to use this word so much...WOW...Found another wine below $10 that is pretty amazing stuff. Tempranillo, Cabernet and Grenache. First impression (the nose) is what gets you hooked. Balance, Structure and the way it shows in the mouth will also get you hooked trust me.

This is Certified Organic wine (which means organicaly farmed) from the region of Navara, Spain . They take care of the land because they know it will give back to there family. So enjoy this wine, it will give you beautiful fruit and a wonderful finish...(medium body).

Enjoy with Pork, New York Strip or how about Tapas when you have your friends over. Get it while it's around!!!

Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon - 2004

MHWS Customer Review

Hi Keith,

As promised, I am giving you my impressions of the Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon - 2004.  As you will no doubt notice from what follows, I am no connoisseur.  As a matter of fact, I am more like the kids from "American Bandstand," with their cretin assessments:  "You can dance to it.  I'll give it a 70."  My tendancy is to review a fine wine by responding, "It tastes great!"  I'll try to be a little more explicit here.

THE FIRST EVENING...

The Cork:  Unlike with some recent vintages I've had, I didn't struggle to remove the cork.  It came out with relative ease.  I attribute this to the hard and smooth texture of the cork.   The cork was not soft and spongy like those on lower quality wines.  I didn't smell the cork, because I don't know what I'm supposed to smell.

The Color:  Maybe I was looking for something that wasn't there.  I might have been trying to find some quality of the wine that would merit the rave reviews this vintage has been given.  So maybe that is what prompted me to see a dark, deep red (much more purple than red).  I've had some cabernets which truely are red, but this wine seemed much darker than some I've experienced.

The Bouquet:  I know that wines have noses.  But my nose is not so discerning.  The bouquet was fine.  It was a scent of things to come.

The Taste:  This is what it's about.  The raison d'etre of a wine.  The initial taste was quiet, like a merlot.  But as the wine lingered on the tongue and worked its way back, it became much more interesting.  I do not know the proper adjectives to describe the various flavors.  I don't know current from blackberry.  I do know it was complex and enjoyable.  The aftertaste was the most enjoyable aspect of the sip.  The various flavors of the wine melded into a most satisfying conclusion.

THE SECOND EVENING...

As you instructed, I saved about half a bottle for the second evening.  I wasn't disappointed.  The major difference for me was the initial taste of the wine at the front of the tongue.  I immediately tasted the complexity of the flavors from the outset.  I didn't have to wait for the back of the tongue or the aftertaste to appreciate the quality of the wine.  As usual, the whole experience was richer on the second evening.

CONCLUSION...

I hope I did justice to your generosity regarding this wine.  You need to understand that this is my first effort at reviewing a wine.  I am  a musician and can speak of nuance of music with some skill.  With wine, however, I am most definitely a philistine.  This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy a good bottle of wine.

Thanks Greg for the review...Seemed very honest and to the point to me...Much appreciated ...Great job...This wine is Rated 92Pts

Chateau Segonzac Bordeaux 2005..

.

Cellar 6-8 years first off or decant for a good bit if your opening it soon...You like tannins well here you go...Tannins mean what about the wine? Email me with the answer. This is classic style Bordeaux, not a cocktail wine from Cali...a food wine that is showing very well indeed. I feel this would be great with game style food or hearty buffalo on a plate with new potato's on the side...oh yes and a vegetable such as asparagus.

Rememeber when you decant a wine that dosen't mean you don't taste the wine...you taste as it is opening up in that beautiful tear drop piece of glass. This way "your own palate" will let you know when it is ready to drink. Wine evolves because it is a living thing in a bottle...decant and learn as the molecules come alive...

Terrefort Lescalle Bordeaux Superior 2005...

2005 bordeauxs in general are drinking well...The reason why is because very simply mother nature was very nice to the farmers...she said I will give perfection or something close. The rest was up to the winemaker. This is a wine that drinks well now. Showing nice terroir and overall balance...pretty impressive stuff for sure...I would say this is not one you can age...it will peak in about a year. Enjoy with simple foods such as burgers, pizza, cheese's and of course my fav STEAK!  Bring it on ....Impressive bottle.
Let it ope up in the glass for about 15 minutes.

Terra Rossa  2004...

This wine is made from Laurel Glen Vineyards out of California and they do make some great wines in the value area for sure. This is a solid wine at the price. It's well made and that is what we look for...May not be for everyone but the winemaker had an idea and you will understand what that is when you taste it.

Looking for full and assertive... Tar, ink and resin before plump, almost port like? It's high in alcohol which some like (14.5) and it "needs BBQ" in a bad way because it is so heavy and or powerful if you like that word better. Pair with braised meat with a reduction sauce made from the wine...say a couple cups at the most. You know how to do that right?
88Pts $12.99 ... Not your Grandmas wine... "Intense"

Marques de Caceras Bianco

Ok...It is pale straw color In the glass....kind of pretty actually. Very fresh on the nose, nice monerality, apples and pears that you will pick up. Now you want to drink...STOP!!! Let it sit for a good five minutes or so. Now come back to it and swirl that glass and stick your nose in there...then sip it...Go ahead your a loud.

I want you to take your time with wine. trust me you will enjoy it so much more if you do these simple things with all the wine you purchase. So this wine from the region of Rioja is perfect with salads, poached or grilled seafood. Even try a pairing with a nice spicy dish from India...Enjoy.
Rating 87Pts "Best Buy" $7.99

Yalumba Museum Muscat

Dessert wine...Most of it is just average sweet stuff...Well Museum Muscat is not normal. I think it's fair to say it is "sex" in a bottle. It is possibly one of the most beautiful sweet things you may ever put in your mouth. It is raisins, ginger, oranges, peaches, caramel, apricots and flowers all in a bottle. It is so round (balanced), hits every part of your mouth...it is truly amazing. "I don't like sweet wine" you say...well you haven't had the right one then...And when you do have this, a 2-ounce pour is plenty at one sitting...Enjoy!!!

Rosenblum Cellars Black Muscat 2005

Not a complicated wine at all…in fact it is like drinking chocolate covered cherries. It is soooo good.  Great on the palate…finishes nicely and it is very limited.  Food pairing I’m thinking is a double decadent chocolate cake….It’s a good ride for sure.

$19.99 – 90 pts

Armador Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Some vanilla and figs stand out here…oh and a lot of earth…That terroir thing is going on.  It’s a big bold wine at this price….Buffalo burgers would go well with this wine, melt some sharp cheese on top but keep the ketchup away from the plate.
