Wines of the Week (May 15)

Clayhouse Cabernet

The grape source is the Red Cedar Vineyard in Paso Robles.  To create this wine, they utilized two different blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit.  The predominate block lies on a steep, sloping terrace of Rincon clay loam.  It is unique, and features very well-drained soil, which must be heavily cover cropped for protection against erosion.  The additional Cabernet Sauvignon fruit comes from a block which consists of fine sandy loam and is well-suited for growing wine grapes.

Perez Cruz Reserva Cabernet

This is a Chilean take on top-flight Bordeaux. A rich and textured Cabernet at it's best, with beautiful sweet oak flavours to complete a quite sensational package. Lavish and decadent it’s a top flight bargain.

Chateau Val Joanis 2004 Cotes du Luberon

Château Val Joanis Red is a well structured and balanced wine, supple and round with a deep purple colour. A slightly spiced wine with notes of black-berries, red-berries and fruits. Plump and fleshy, with a layer of cocoa covering the plum and berry fruit. Nice smoky finish has a chewy tinge, but still maintains solid fruit.

New Age

The fruit is hand picked followed by crushing, cooling of the crushed grapes, and pressing. Fermentation begins by inoculating with selected yeasts. Halfway through the fermentation process, the wine is centrifuged (spun) to halt fermentation, creating a slightly sweet, semi-sparkling wine. 50% Sauvignon Blanc 50% Malvasia.

Schmitt Sohne Beerenauslese

This luscious dessert style wine is produced from late harvested overripe grapes. This noble wine is very rich and complex with honey and apricots overtones. Well rounded wine with  a liquor like finish. This wine is perfect as an aperitif for receptions, or as a finish after a rich dinner.

Ring Bolt Cabernet

The first impression of Ring Bolt is its deep red color. The nose is typical of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Margaret River. Layers of intensely flavoured ripe forest berries infused by dark chocolate with a suggestion of humus or earthiness. Loads of flavour with lots of dark fruits up-front melding with well seasoned oak on the mid-palate and finishing with velvety tannins and lingering berry nuances. Ringbolt is made for immediate drinking though it will continue to gain complexity with cellaring for up to five years.
