Wines of the week (March 26)

Red Wine of the Week

Verget  du  Sud  "Au Fil du Temps"

Everyday low price $9.99

Jean-Marie Guffens worked some vinous magic in his high-altitude cave in the Luberon to craft “Au Fils du Temps.” This spirited red southern French blend is part Syrah, part Grenache, part Cabernet Sauvignon, part je ne sais quoi...a slice of black cherry clafoutis, a swig of blueberry juice, a bundle of dried, wild garrigue.

White Wine of the Week

Pine Ridge 2007 Chenin Blanc/Viognier

- Sale $9.99, Reg. $13.99

A truly fabulous California blend—combing the best of the Loire and the best of the Rhône to create a wine as light and sun-drenched as the Golden State. White flowers and sweet exotic lychee fruit complement subtler citrus aromas on this chenin blanc-viognier blend. Bright on the palate, fresh pear and citrus flavors are framed by clean, refreshing acidity.

Cline 2006 Zinfandel

Cline's California Zinfandel displays a wide array of dark berry fruit including black cherry and raspberry, spice notes and a lasting finish of vanilla from oak aging. Firm, supple tannins add complexity to this wine. Drink now or hold... it will continue to develop complexity over the next three to four years.

Razor’s Edge 2006 Shiraz

The Razor’s Edge is the thin line representing a perfect balance between extremes. It is here that this wine can be found, perfectly combining quality and value, complexity and approachability, body and elegance, regional character and purity of flavor. Razor’s Edge does not only walk the line it dances upon it.

Our Daily Red Organic Sulfite Free

Their ongoing vintages have added a healthy percentage (30%) of Mendocino grapes which bring the leaner mouth feel and more focused flavors of the region to the mix. A blend of Fresno Syrah and Carignan and Mendocino Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine should age well for a few years...if it lasts.

Gagliardo Barbera d’Alba

The Barbera grape was widely planted in Northern Italy in the last 100 years. If ever there was an Italian grape to displace Merlot in America, it could be Barbera. This wine has an intense ruby red color, rich berry flavor and soft tannins. Great before dinner and with all foods.

Chateau Bianca 2007 Riesling

This wine offers vibrant aromas of apricots, tangerines, and finally peaches. There is lightness to the wine that is very refreshing. Strong acidity combined with a slightly sweet undertone would help to make this an ideal food partner. The citrus aromas and flavors dominate the wine and compel the taster to want to take a second sip. Destined to become a personal and crowd favorite.

Wines of the Week (3/12)

Red Wine of the Week

Domaine Paul Autard 2005

Sale $12.99, Reg. $15.99

This wine has a nice touch of fruit for a Cotes du Rhone with a dark color and nice aromas of dark fruits. The deep flavors center around black cherry, licorice and spices with a juicy medium length finish.

A true Cote du Rhone value wine!!

White Wine of the Week

Chateau Bonnet Entre-deux-Mers Bordeaux 2006

- Sale $9.99, Reg. $12.99

You say you don't like white wines, well give this one a try.  This blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion and a bit of Muscadelle has a great nose of lemon, citrus, and some of that straw thing going on.  Great mouth-feel with good acidity and crispness.  A touch of residual sugar is present, but this is one to have with some cheese or as an apertif.

Casa do Valle 2006 Arinto

Produced exclusively with Arinto grapes produced in Casa do Valle’s property, this dry white wine presents a bright, pale straw colour, a complex lemon and tropical fruits aroma,. It’s a very fresh and elegant wine with spicy citric fruit flavours and a long and appellative finish.

Terra Rosa Old Vine Malbec 2004

The 2004 Terra Rosa is a BIG and juicy mouthful of wine, with a lashing of very sexy oak. They didn’t set out to make this vintage in such a crowd-pleasing style: the vintage dictated the result, and it is really delicious….at once rich and powerful and with the delicate, long finish which the best malbecs display!

Pierre Sparr Alsace One 2006

Floral, citrus and peach notes grace this gentle well-balanced white, whose subtlety belies an underlying persistence, ending in a long, languid finish. Suggested food pairing: aperitif, spicy dishes, Asian, Asian-fusion food, barbecue meals, salad & pasta dishes.

Bradgate Syrah 2004

This South African Syrah has a complex flavor spectrum of sweet ripe plums, wild scrub and violets with nuances of bay leaf and crushed pepper. Maturation in oak adds a spicy smokiness to the savory fruitcake finish.

d’Arenberg d’Arry’s Original 2004

A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by beautiful blackberry, cassis, cherry, and licorice scents with hints of Provencal herbs and pepper in the background. This medium to full-bodied, front end-loaded blend of Shiraz and Grenache possesses considerable fruit, body, and silky tannins as well as enough acidity to provide definition. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
