Let’s make this easy. You simply will not find a better bottle of Cabernet for less money than the 2013 Domaine Bousquet Reserve Cab. This stuff is silly good. It has a long plush entry that is highlighted by appealing layers of woodsmoke, cedar, roasted plums, tobacco, and vanilla. As you continue to sip and swirl you’ll notice nuances of damp forest floor, baking chocolate, and warm blueberry preserves. The whole thing is wrapped up in a medium bodied palate with a fine balance between fruit, tannin, and acidity. Heck, it even finishes with a touch of lingering minerality that is reminiscent of the the left bank in a ripe vintage. It is thoroughly complete and downright delicious to sip. And really, who doesn’t need a great inexpensive bottle of Cabernet in their wine rack? So stop by the shop this evening and taste this little gem for free. We think you’ll flip when you try it!
Food Pairing:
Cabernet is so popular, in part, because it pairs so well with such a wide variety of foods. With Hatch chili season in full swing I think this would be a perfect wine to pair up with a burger that had diced roasted green chilis mixed into the meat before cooking. Add a side of roasted new potatoes tossed with a mix of melted butter, fig paste, and guajillo powder and you ought to be all set for a modern twist on the classic meat and potatoes supper.
