Bodega Septima Obra Malbec 2013

The weather is looking pretty crummy for the upcoming weekend. So why not plan to stop by the shop this evening and stock up on some awesome red wine so that you can hunker down and ride out the bad weather in high style? We have a fantastic deal for you on a 90 Point Malbec from one of Agentina’s best producers, Bodega Septima. Their 2013 Obra Malbec is fantastically lush and opulent with a style that is fit for a king. It begins with the most wonderful nose of espresso, dark chocolate, cassis liqueur, and toasty oak. Then, as you go in for the first sip, it tempts you with alluring flavors of blackberry jam and blueberry pie filling. The wine is so nice and dense and plush on the palate. It feels so luxurious to sip! As it finishes you’ll notice hints of vanilla, cracked pepper, and brandied cherries. Drink this one alone or pair it up with a with a hearty bowl of slowly simmered beef stew for a real treat!
On to the Tasting Notes:
It’s so much fun to drink a great bottle of wine like the 2013 Obra Malbec. I just love it when a wine is so lush and rich and smooth yet it still manages to feel balanced and poised. The fruit is abundant, there’s no denying that. But it’s not one of those cheap one dimensional fruit bombs. Instead I get layers of burnt sugar like on the crust of creme brule, sweet vanilla, bitter espresso and chocolate, and warm peppery spice. Heck, there’s even a hint of minerality to be found in the finish for those willing to look past all the fruit and spice. Drinking it alone is thoroughly pleasurable and engaging. Though I haven’t had it with a meal yet, I feel confident that it will make a wonderful companion to a wide range of hearty meals. Drink this beauty over the next 3 to 5 years.
Food Pairing:
As I look out the window this morning it’s kinda raining and kinda snowing and totally gloomy. The forecast is calling for that to go on most of the weekend. That immediately sets my mind to thinking about some slow cooked dish. I have a couple of racks of baby back ribs just waiting to go on the smoker. So I’m thinking that, instead of using my regular dry rub mix, I’m going to rub them down with Chinese 5 Spice powder and smoke them over applewood for 5 or 6 hours. I think the 5 Spice flavor will make a great accent to the richness and opulent fruit that the Obra Malbec brings to the table.
You MUST mention this special or print it out to receive the price on the above wine.
