All this cold and snow has got us thinking about hunkering down in front of a warm fire with a nice, spicy glass of Red! And what could be better suited to the task than a big ole 92 Point Dry Creek Valley Zin? Darn near nothing! That’s what! So this week we are bringing you a killer deal on the most recent vintage of a perennial favorite here at Mile High, the 2016 Folie a Deux Dry Creek Zinfandel. This bruiser tips the scales at 15.5% abv on the label. So, yes, that’s likely to get you moving in the right direction faster than a delicate little 12% French white. But it’s not just about that. Instead higher alcohol makes a wine feel more dense, more viscous on the palate. Tack on a nice little pop of new oak to all that opulently boozy fruit and before you know it you’ve got yourself something pretty freaking good to sip! Come on! How about some warm brown sugar, pipe tobacco, and Ceylon cinnamon aromatics? Yup! You know you want that! And cherry pie filling? It’s got that too! Kirsch liqueur? Sho nuff! And you’d better believe the finish has got all that great peppery spice that makes Dry Creek Zin so darn good. Add a quarter rack of baby back ribs then you’re in heaven with a glass of this delicious Red! Please swing by the tasting bar this evening and get a little snort of this juice. It’s mighty good!
Food Pairing:
Slow cooked ribs would be perfect. That’s for sure. That said, this is some darn good Zinfandel and you really don’t need to dress up darn good Zinfandel all that much in order to enjoy it. Pizza, a burger, or even some assorted takeout taqueria goodies would work just fine too. Or, skip all that jazz and just tuck into a nice soft blanket in front of a nice warm fire so that you put it in neutral and just coasting lazily into the evening.
