That little snow storm made Fall feel like it had really arrived, didn’t it? The leaves (and a bunch of limbs unfortunately) have been falling fast. So this week we decided to show off one of favorite hearty California Red Blends. The 2013 Andis Painted Fields is a wonderfully rich and powerful Cabernet based blend. This showy Red is ready for any kind of food you feel like throwing at it. The nose is deeply complex with striking scents of freshly pitted red cherries, rosemary, thyme, rose petals, and cigar box all making appearances. On the palate, you’ll find that the 2013 Andis is really hitting its stride. Medium to full bodied and packed with bright red berry fruit and spice, it is the sort of showy wine that was obviously built to impress. Red currant jam, under-ripe strawberries, and cherry liqueur define the entry while lingering notes of cinnamon, crushed lampong peppercorns, grilled herbs, and baking chocolate deliver the kind of experience on the finish that is sure to leave a lasting impression on you and your guests. A food wine no doubt, the 2013 Painted Fields will excel when paired with hearty meats and rich sauces. Duck, lamb, bison, and quail will shine alongside this robust red. And, there’s no rush. This delicious offering ought to hold up nicely for a couple of years in the cellar if you happen to forget about a few bottles.
Food Pairing:
A brash and showy Red like the 2013 Andis Painted Fields will pair up neatly with lots of different meals. This weekend the warm weather ought to be just right for some grilling and chilling. So, I suggest bison burgers on the grill. Top ‘em with some nice spicy pepper jelly and add a side of quinoa salad with apples, walnuts, and crumbled bleu cheese for a fantastic meal that will be quick to put together but high in style.
